The Aspen Series - Statement

This series is an exploration of the Aspens of New Mexico. It began in February 2004 as a
winter storm moved across the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Santa Fe.

If I have a favorite time to photograph, it is during a storm. When weather is tumultuous most
people are indoors and it’s easy to find myself with space to explore, uninterrupted.
Storms are also times when the mystery and force of existence are more readily captured with a camera.

During this February snow storm, I headed out into the mountains to explore.
I found the Aspens coated with a crisp layer of snow and ice. As the fast moving storm clouds
and blowing snow thinned, the late afternoon sun began softly illuminating the mountains.
The frosted Aspen began to glow and their light, silver-green bark looked
almost black against their brilliant, white icy branches.

The other images in this series are explorations of light, life and spirit
at play in and among the Aspen trees and groves of New Mexico.

Process

I create each print individually using archival
ultrachrome pigment inks and the finest archival papers.

Images are created with a digital SLR camera. Prints are made using a process based in the darkroom
printing techniques of the early masters of photography adapted to current technology and digital tools.
The inks are UV stable and have a longevity rating of 138 years when protected from direct UV exposure.

Prints are available in editions of 3 and 5, varying with the print size. The price list
of this portfolio contains information about the sizes of available prints.

The prints are signed and numbered inverso with pencil and emboss stamped with my studio insignia
below the image on the bottom right of the paper. Each print also has an individually
numbered holographic stamp that corresponds to a signed certificate of authenticity.

Purchased prints ship with an archival print box.
