Memphis has a Bachelor of Arts from Florida State University, with concentrated studies on the great Southern authors and how their works were shaped by the natural world and their spiritual beliefs. In the 1980s she worked as a journalist at the Charlotte Observer and The Myrtle Beach Sun News. She is mentored by renowned photographer George DeWolfe, a student of Minor White and Ansel Adams and she has studied at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshop and Maine Media Workshops. Her photography shows regularly in solo and group exhibitions.
Memphis welcomes the opportunity to use her camera to support social and environmental causes and has worked on projects with Indian Ocean Tsunami survivors in India and Sri Lanka ad the Tibetan people living in exile in Dharamsala, India. She currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Burlington, Vermont and travels often to celebrate and photograph the wonders of the natural world.
